This aquarium heater should be used fully submersed. Heater’s glass body is sensitive to radical temperature changes. The heater should always be turned off before it is removed from water and never exposed to water if the glass body is hot. A water splash hitting a hot glass body will break the heater, but if the heater is let to cool down slowly, accidental use above water does not usually harm it.
