Fluorescent tube lighting unit for standard T5 fluorescent tubes. This light system does not have a solid frame structure, which makes it very light, compact and easy to use in different situations.

This light can be used to illuminate aquariums, terrariums, birds, miniature greenhouses etc. plant growing applications or it can be used as a support light for houseplants or as a part of general illumination. It is compatible with all types of T8 tubes including UV tubes.

This lighting system contains an electronic ballast unit with power switch and fluorescent tube end caps that are connected with cables. When a fluorescent tube is attached between the end caps, it works as a frame on which a separate reflector can be attached. Tube end caps are less than 10mm thicker than the fluorescent tube itself and the end caps add approximately 30mm to the tube length. With an additional reflector, the total height of the lighting unit is only 38mm.

This lighting set set includes plastic attachment pieces for fixed mounting, or it can be simply placed on top of an aquarium / terrarium cover. As the tube ends and the fluorescent tube are very light, the unit can be hung easily with wires or strong fishing line.

This set does not include a reflector, which is available as an accessory. Reflector improves the lighting efficiency by directing all produced light to the target and prevents glare to unwanted directions. Reflector also improves the looks, making the set look like a slim normal style aquarium light.

NOTE! Although the construction does not automatically limit fluorescent tube length to the correct size like solid frame light systems do, this device is designed to be used only with the specified tube size / power.

NOTE! Fluorescent tubes are designed to handle certain amount of power. The ballast of a T5 fluorescent light fixture is decisive: TUBE POWER should be SAME or HIGHER than BALLAST POWER. Therefore, 14W T5 light unit can be used with normal 14W (549mm) tubes AND with 24W (549mm) HO (High Output) tubes, but 24W T5 light unit cannot be used with 14W tubes. T5 HO tubes will not give out full lighting potential when used with a ballast rated for the normal T5 tubes, but they will not be harmed by the lower than rated operation power.
